Overview and Purpose of Role: The PepsiCo Chicago Community Manager works collaboratively across the company, multiple PepsiCo divisions based in Chicago, and external partners in North America/Chicago to assess, design, and implement social impact programs that will generate positive social impact for underserved residents on Chicago’s South and West side communities and deliver on the mission and strategic priorities of PepsiCo One Chicago. Primary objectives of this role are to:

  • Work with community partners to improve pathways and access to high-quality careers on Chicago’s South and West Side communities by strategically investing in programs and community partnerships
  • Effectively leverage PepsiCo’s diverse assets (employees, expertise, customers, sports team partnerships, contracted talent, business partners) to drive community impact while also catalyzing capital to ensure sustainable funding
  • Deliver progress against PepsiCo’s Racial Equality Journey commitment and PepsiCo Chicago Diversity & Engagement (D&E) metrics through effective Chicago community programs
  • Increase trust of PepsiCo among community leaders and Chicago employees through meaningful engagement, sustained results and effective collaboration
  • Enhance PepsiCo Chicago’s reputation among key stakeholders through innovative and meaningful communications/marketing strategies
To achieve these objectives, the PepsiCo Chicago Community Manager must have first-hand, lived experience of Chicago’s South or West side communities and consistently demonstrate strong leadership, insightful strategic thinking, strong project management skill set, internal and external collaboration and diplomatic influencing skills. The Community Manager works collaboratively internally and externally to design and execute an overall strategy (linking it to other PepsiCo efforts including Racial Equality Journey, Stronger Together , S outhern Dallas Thrives , etc.), evolving it over time as performance and needs change, to address the specific issues facing South and West side communities. The Community Manager is also responsible for the measurement and management of program performance and will serve as a spokesperson for the efforts.

Role Responsibilities: The Community Manager’s primary responsibilities are to increase PepsiCo One Chicago’s positive social impact, engagement and visibility at the local community level including serving as primary liaison/point of contact for all the team’s internal and external stakeholders. Specifically, the Community Manager will:
  • Oversee creation and implementation of PepsiCo-led community engagement program tentatively called “Chicago Thrives,” including efforts to align, leverage of otherwise mobilize the resources of others in a way that is consistent with Chicago Thrives` goals and objectives
  • Create and oversee regular volunteer events across business units and Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) to create integrated culture of volunteerism to advance “Chicago Thrives’” goals and strengthen PepsiCo’s network with strategic, respected community partners
  • Deliver robust “Chicago Thrives” external and internal communications which will serve as a primer for an external-facing reputation strategy for the company in Chicago. Communications responsibilities include but are not limited to pitching earned media, developing internal campaigns, establishing “Chicago Thrives” digital/social presence, working with local artists to create visual identity, partnering with internal business partners to amplify the program across PepsiCo business units and functions
  • Lead cross-functional PepsiCo and multi-agency team to ongoingly inform and reshape "Chicago Thrives”
  • Lead all strategic philanthropic partnerships including grant agreements, annual performance management and strategic oversight of annual budget
  • Engage PepsiCo Chicago ERGs, enhance the Chicago employee experience and our Diversity & Engagement strategy through “Chicago Thrives”
  • Establish and develop trusted relationships with leading external nonprofits and facilitate connections and relationships with them and PepsiCo

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Experience in Chicago’s social impact space, preferably with deep relationships with organizations in the South and West side communities
  • 7+ years of experience developing and executing CSR or community engagement programs or related work
  • Communications experience creating and executing 360˚ plans across paid, earned, shared and owned channels; relationships and/or experience with Chicago media
  • Strategy development experience, including the ability to create a compelling vision and translate it into specific action plans
  • Professional maturity, including strong written and oral communication skills with ability to “develop the story” and present/communicate it compellingly
  • Superior collaboration, diplomacy, influence and win/win solution development skills; adept at building strong and productive relationships with people from a wide range of backgrounds
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills and experience leading or overseeing communications
  • Management of 3rd party relationships with performance management accountabilities
  • Good judgment, with ability to assess priorities and make well-considered decisions swiftly
  • Comfort with ambiguity, and grace under fire with a consistently positive and solution-oriented demeanor
  • Strong time management and rapid (re)prioritization skills, with ability to thrive in a dynamic environment
  • Understanding of cultural nuances, traditions and sensitivity in creating locally relevant plans
  • Ability and willingness to travel approx. 20%+ of the time in the Chicagoland area including volunteer events, meetings with non-profit partners, community events, etc.
  • Bachelor’s degree
Role Preferences:
  • Experience within a nonprofit, corporate Foundation and/or a Corporate 500 company
  • Experience working with government agencies/officials
  • Experience managing budgets
