Church World Service is a not-for-profit, international humanitarian assistance organization comprised of 37 protestant denominations. The CWS Immigration and Refugee Program provides assistance to displaced persons abroad and works with the State Department and our 22 local offices and affiliates across the United States to resettle refugees fleeing persecution. The Washington, DC office of CWS advocates for improvements in humanitarian assistance funding, protection mechanisms, and the U.S. refugee resettlement program. CWS also advocates for humane, equitable immigration reform that prioritizes family unity and provides a pathway to citizenship for our undocumented community members.

Church World Service (CWS) is seeking a savvy digital media intern to support our communications work. This internship offers valuable real-world experience in digital media outreach, online organizing, and graphic design. The ideal candidate will possess—and have the opportunity to further develop—strong graphic design, video editing, and social media skills. This intern will work with the two DC based Media Associates to create and distribute content to help publicize the CWS Immigration and Refugee Program initiatives across various digital platforms. The intern will receive media training, attend CWS sponsored events, and create media content such as live tweets, Facebook posts, etc. The intern will also assist with graphic design, to be published on CWS outlets, and help draft advisories and press releases.

Interns must be enrolled in school at the undergraduate or graduate level. Students obtaining a degree in journalism, international affairs, or other related fields are preferred. Proficiency with leading social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, and YouTube is a must. Strong communications skills, including writing and grammar, are a must.

Knowledge of Associated Press style
Experience in web design and content management
Interest in refugee assistance, resettlement, immigration issues such as TPS or other social justice issues

Note: Applicant/s selected for the internship are required to have a university agreement from your current or former university or educational institution that indicates the internship would be related to your education or studies. Preference will be given to qualified students who can commit to intern for a full semester (or summer period), but no more than two. Interns must work a minimum of 28 hours per week (35 in the summer). Some evening events may be required. Expenses related to the daily commute to and from the office will be reimbursed up to $300 per month.

Fall: Sept. 2-Dec. 14 — apply by August 19
