Spring Intern: US Foreign Policy and Communications at American Enterprise Institute

Overview: AEI’s Foreign and Defense Policy Studies department is seeking an intern with a general interest in foreign policy research.

The intern will assist Distinguished Senior Fellow Danielle Pletka and Senior Fellow Marc A. Thiessen in research tasks for regular opinion columns, podcasts, long-term projects, and events. Typical research will relate to the Middle East, China, America’s role in the international community, and occasionally domestic politics. The intern will also provide research support for Director of Foreign and Defense Policy Studies Kori Schake on various foreign policy topics, including the Middle East, defense, and national security. Finally, the intern will occasionally help the department’s communications and audience development teams to measure the department’s output and draft promotional materials and newsletters.

The ideal candidate is detail oriented, demonstrates strong analytical and writing skills, can work in a fast-paced environment, and has a passion for foreign affairs. Applicants should have a background and demonstrated interest in US foreign policy and national security. Experience with digital media and customer relations is a plus.

There will be two start dates for the spring program: January 18 and January 24, 2022. *The program will run for a minimum of 10 weeks, although most interns’ end dates fall around mid-May. Please see the internship homepage for more updates about the program.

Intern Scholarship Program*
In the spring of 2022, AEI will offer up to 12 intern candidates a $1,000 monthly living stipend as part of a need-based scholarship program. Our hope is to allow students to reap the academic, professional, and personal benefits of interning at AEI with the added support of financial assistance. About AEI Internships
AEI internships offer a unique opportunity for undergraduates, graduate students, and recent graduates to gain experience in research, writing, business, and communications at one of the nation’s leading think tanks. Competitive candidates will generally possess a 3.4 GPA or higher from a top-ranking college or university. AEI internships last a minimum of 10 weeks, and interns are required to work 20–40 hours per week. AEI internships are unpaid; however, applicants may apply for the intern scholarship opportunity.
