Scope of Position

The Communications and Marketing Department is responsible for the overall image management and communications and marketing activities on behalf of the entire Wexner Medical Center. The senior marketing consultant position has responsibility for supporting the strategic goals of various service lines through communications and marketing initiatives.

Position Summary

Collaborating with Medical Center leadership and Communications and Marketing Department, the senior marketing consultant develops and implements communications and marketing programs to support strategic and financial goals and objectives of various service lines. The position provides strategic communications and marketing leadership, vision and direction across all three mission areas and strategic business goals. From research to planning and execution, this position establishes short and long-term goals and priorities to help the organization achieve its goals. Responsible for monitoring and implementation of marketing and strategic communications plans and tactics, overall project management, building and maintaining relationships and providing creative solutions to marketing challenges.

Duties and Responsibilities

35% STRATEGIC COMMUNICATIONS & MARKETING PLANNING

  • Analyzes strategic planning objectives and related data.

- Advises leadership on outreach strategies and evaluates opportunities to make value-based recommendations.

  • Develops, implements, and monitors communications and marketing plans to achieve goals and objectives.
  • Identifies messages, target audiences, budgets, tactics, tracking mechanisms and time lines.

- Formulates yearly and long-range plans to generate awareness and increase local market share of the transplant program service line.

- Develops and implements strategies to enhance local and regional reputation of selected service lines through promotion of clinical, teaching and research initiatives.

- Investigates and provides information on industry trends relative to communications and marketing strategies.

- Serves on committees, provides data and information on communications and marketing trends.

- Coordinates necessary surveys, focus groups and data collection working with internal staff and vendors.

30% PROGRAM / EVENT & RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT

  • Works with senior leadership to identify needs specific to selected programs.
  • Leads multidisciplinary team to develop special events to support organizational and product specific marketing goals and assist in strategy development and event implementation.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with key organizations on behalf of Wexner Medical Center that support product line initiatives.
  • Coordinates and participates in direct marketing initiatives.
  • Works directly with clinical teams to promote niche specific programming and makes budgetary and programmatic recommendations as appropriate.
  • Develops and updates marketing materials including promotion of continuing education activities and patient education materials.
  • Works with graphic design team to assure visual and brand identity of all projects.
  • Coordinates with media relations specialist and works with staff to proactively promote the positive accomplishments of the Medicine Center service lines.
  • Creates and coordinates timely internal communications for internal communication vehicles.
  • Develops measurement and evaluation criteria for projects.
  • Prepares reports to document the effectiveness of plans/tactics and makes recommendations on future activities based on pre-determined evaluation criteria.

30% DIGITAL MARKETING MANAGEMENT

  • Plans and develops digital content to support strategic direction of various programs.
  • Works fluently in the Sitecore platform to develop, edit and manage online content related to the Medical Center’s digital experience.
  • Participates in ongoing training and update meetings with the Digital team to keep abreast of Sitecore system updates, best practices and new digital initiatives.
  • Manages service line department site and content on OSUWMC website.
  • Manages digital marketing programs including paid media, SEO and CRM campaigns.
  • Contributes to social media presence of this service line across Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest and/or Instagram as well as stays informed about upcoming platforms.

5% FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

- Prepares budget and manages expenses.

  • Coordinates purchases and expenditures and makes recommendations in determining overall budget.
  • Provides analysis of current expenditures and projected needs; makes recommendations on cost management and alternative solutions.
