The SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) seeks a dynamic, forward-thinking, and engaging Social Media Manager to join the Office of Communications and Marketing. This person is a strong individual contributor who has the ability to bring social media strategies to life through compelling and visual storytelling that drives engagement and visibility, and elevates the ESF brand.

The Social Media Manager will support ESF`s communications and marketing goals by engaging with our key audiences, which include: prospective and current students, families, faculty, staff, alumni, donors, funding agencies, industry partners, and others. This person thinks creatively, strategically, and critically, and is highly organized.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assist with leading ESF`s social media initiatives, manage the College`s official channels, and create a consistent voice.Assist with development, execution, and monitoring of measurable organic and paid social media strategies.
  • Create a content calendar with timely, relevant content that drives engagement and reaches our target audiences.
  • Write, edit, and publish content.
  • Provide leadership to help us continually elevate ESF`s presence.
  • Work collaboratively and effectively with key campus stakeholders across numerous departments to help identify stories we can tell on social media.
  • Continuously monitor and respond to messages and comments in a professional and timely manner.
  • Deliver monthly analytics reports and deliver recommendations on how to improve results.
  • Keep the Executive Director of Communications and Marketing informed of issues that emerge on social media.
  • Effectively curate content from other channels.
  • Provide training and best practices to ESF-affiliated channel managers.
  • Draft campus social media policy.
  • Stay on top of social media trends. Research and evaluate emerging (and current) platforms and make recommendations on whether and how we might adopt.
  • Assist with crisis communications.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor`s degree in marketing, communication, digital media, or related field.At least 5 years of experience managing social media for a brand or in higher education.
  • Expertise managing key social media channels, including but not limited to: TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness through actions, interactions, and communications with others.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with social media management platforms, such as Hootsuite.
  • Proven track record of developing strategic, successful social media strategies.
  • Knowledge of SEO, SEM, and analytics.
  • Impeccable writing and editing skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Experience with video and audio recording.
  • Ability to track multiple projects and prioritize.
  • Ability to work with a broad range of stakeholders across campus.
  • Knowledge of social media listening tools and reputation management practices
  • Superior judgment in identifying issues and recommending solutions, and knowing what is brand-appropriate
  • Ability to create material for different audiences while maintaining a unified voice
