Peregrine Technical Solutions is seeking an experienced Social Media Assistant to fill a contract position with a bureau of the US Department of State. The position is in the National Capital Region. This subject matter expert (SME) will support the Bureau’s social media program.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Use expertise in audience demographic analysis to devise new strategies to increase bureau followership on multiple, common social media platforms.
  • Integrate the lessons learned from social media workshops to craft social media content amplify the Bureau’s policy goals and achievements on all followed social media platforms.
  • Manage day-to-day social media strategy and prepare, schedule and post approved content for multiple social media networks.
  • Train social media practitioners in each of the customer’s divisions on new social media platforms.
  • Generate appealing content for regional and policy initiatives for dissemination to select missions and other outreach events as needed.
  • Use expertise in monitoring, listening, and responding to social media comments.
  • Produce AF digital content with a focus on education, entrepreneurship, diaspora, security, countering violent extremism, countering the Chinese narrative, sanctions, and establishing stronger trade ties.
  • Work with country desk officers and other policy personnel to complete data visualization projects.
  • Conduct periodic analysis of posts’ social media content to assess training needs.
  • Analyze how select US Embassies use the Bureau’s content and utilize social media platforms.

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

  • Read, speak, and write fluently in English.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and cultural awareness and sensitivity required to interact with a broad range coworkers and stakeholders.
  • Ability to excel in fast-paced work environments.
  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects effectively - excellent planning, project management, and organizational skills.
  • Clear understanding of the organizational structure of the US Department of State.
  • Experience leveraging partnerships and contacts to create organic social media content that elevate the brand’s presence across all social media channels.
  • Expertise with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Canva, Twitter, Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, LinkedIn, Adobe Creative Cloud Suite (ex. Photoshop, Final Cut Pro, etc.).
  • Proficient in social media advertising on platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
  • Ability to keep up to date on social media’s ever-changing landscape.
  • Experience managing and creating social media content for stakeholders.
  • Ability to translate technical policy priorities into simple, colloquial, meaningful copy language appropriate for a public audience.
  • Expertise in infographics and graphic design; understanding of how to use and collect data for social media content, interactive dashboards, and graphics.
  • Ability to quickly produce social media content on short notice.
  • Experience with drafting social media reports and researching others in the digital diplomacy space.
  • Highly creative with experience in identifying target audiences and creative digital campaigns that inform and engage audiences.

Minimum Qualification:

  • Proof of US citizenship will be required.
  • Willingness to submit to a background investigation.
  • Ability to acquire a public trust Security Clearance.SociS
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
  • Previous, demonstrable experience in a similar role supporting Social Media administration and/or management

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited educational institution.
  • Working knowledge of pan-African current affairs.
  • Two to four years of recent, professional social media experience.
  • Relevant US Government social media experience.
