A modern CV: What should it look like?

We’re used to saying ‘CV’ instead of the all-too-common word ‘CV’. But anyone writing this most important document in our careers can face some challenges. We will try to talk briefly about what should include a modern CV, as well as the most common mistakes encountered in the CV of our job seekers. For your convenience, let’s try to use the structure of a literary work.

A modern CV: What should it look like?

Don’t make a common mistake many job seekers make. Don’t write the word “CV” at the beginning. You should start with the position for which you are applying. And then you should write your last name, first name.

We do not advise you to write several different positions at once. If you are a universal specialist, you can specify two or three, but related, for example: “PR specialist, copywriter”.

Include your age, marital status, address and telephone number. Despite the modern freedom of manners, employers are massively conservative. You should state your marital status in accordance with your passport details.

A resume culminates with your education and work experience. Do not think that would be enough to name your school and the employer immediately grabs you dead hand. Catchy and prestigious names of universities is no surprise, even if you have three degrees. Clearly specify the department and specialty in which you received a degree. If you have taken any courses or attended seminars related to the position for which you are applying, don’t forget to mention it too.

Work experience is by far the most important part of your CV. In reverse chronological order, list all the places where you have worked, clearly naming the position and the range of your responsibilities. If there are too many jobs, limit yourself to the most relevant ones.

Make sure you include your language, computer and Internet skills in the additional information section. If you have a driver’s licence and your future job requires you to travel, remember to write about your driving licence too.

Before completing the personal qualities column, make a list of qualities that are important for the job you want to apply for.

Many first-time job seekers and young people often make the characteristic mistake of writing a CV. They impose their ‘learnability’ and openness to new things on the employer. Unfortunately, in the context of a job search it looks like this: ‘at this stage I don’t know how to do anything at all yet’.

Should I put in my CV the salary you are applying for? There is no simple answer to this question. If your CV is a response to a specific job vacancy that specified a salary, you can write that amount. The recruitment agency you send your CV to will also understand if you write down the specific “fork” you are applying for. It is not a good idea to mention the money on your CV when you send it directly to the employer.

Now you can send your resume to recruiting agencies and offer it to the employer. It is equally important, perhaps, that you have formulated the answers to the important questions: Who am I? What are my competencies? What do I really want to do? What are my strengths and weaknesses?

Writing a winning CV is the most important step on the long career ladder. If you want to create an up-to-date CV with all the necessary elements in a short time and increase your chances of being hired, use local resume services near me.
