In schools and colleges, more and more often lately, teachers of literature have asked pupils to write a book review. The teachers of literature have been giving them the task of writing a book review more and more often lately. And the task is given out, but to explain how exactly it should be done, usually or forget, or can not say clearly.
Let us try to understand it ourselves. After all, who better than writers to know what can and should be said about their books?
First of all, let’s define it: a review is your personal opinion of what you’ve read, your evaluation of the book. And this opinion must be justified. How do you do it?
First, be sure to tell how you feel about the book you’ve read: what made you happy, what made you sad, and what made you angry – and why.
Secondly, note a few things that particularly “grabbed” you: it could be the character, or his actions, or the situation the author describes. Again, explain why you were drawn to it.
And thirdly, tell us what was most meaningful to you in the story you read.
Look at the author and the title of the book. Do you know the author? What do you know about him? Mention the important things. What about the title of the book? Is it interesting? Does it set a mood or hint at what awaits in the book? Say a few words about it.
You have mentioned the author and the title. Now it’s time to get to the main part of the review: answer the main question – what is this book about? What is the main point of the story? What does it teach?
Pay attention! It is not necessary to retell the book in detail here. The important thing is to formulate the main idea. It is desirable, of course, to write briefly, but not to miss the important things. Two or three sentences will be enough.
Next, say the main thing: whether you liked the book or not. And be sure to reveal – why?
What did you enjoy the story? What did it teach you? What did you find most interesting? Do you agree with the actions of the characters, or maybe you would have done something different? You may even have some good advice for someone in the book. Write whatever you can think of.
In a book review, it’s better to say too much than to say nothing. You can always cut it short.
Separately, say a few words about the characters in the book. Who do you think is the main character? Who are the secondary characters, helpers, villains, etc.? Tell us if you like them. Is there anyone you would like to be friends with?
Let’s move on to the conclusion. Conclude – what did the book teach you? What was the most valuable thing in it for you? What did you learn?
As you can see, it is easy to write a good review. The main thing is to think hard and use the tips and a step-by-step plan.
And remember: The most valuable thing in a good review is your opinion. So feel free to express it.
But not every student will manage to write a report and comply with all the points the first time. To save time, buy a book report from WiseEssays.
